Recap: July 31 Community Insights Meeting
For the last eight months, our planning team has been working diligently to collect information about the Choice Neighborhoods Planning area.
This information was collected in many ways, including:
interviews with key stakeholders in the community,
a parcel survey to determine vacant lots,
crime data,
publicly available demographic data,
a large survey that gave the opportunity for all of the residents in the CN focus area (nearly 3,000 homes) to give their feedback, and
an additional targeted survey for the residents of Lorna Doone Apartments and Lake Mann Homes. (Read more about the surveys completed »)
To wrap up what we’ve referred to as the “assessment” phase of this 2-year Choice Neighborhoods Planning grant, we held a series of Community Insights Meetings at both Lorna Doone Apartments and Lake Mann Homes, as well as one large community meeting on July 31 at L. Claudia Allen Senior Center.
With more than 85 community members in attendance, joined by Congressman Maxwell Frost, City Commissioner Bakari Burns (District 6), City Commissioner Shan Rose (District 5), and County Commissioner Mike Scott (District 6), everyone present was given the opportunity to participate in a “data walk” where they were able to visit each station of data where they were presented with a summary of the data on the boards, given the opportunity to ask questions and respond to a series of prompts.
At this meeting, we were able to capture the valuable feedback of every single participant, which was a vital step before we will move into “visioning” our next phase of the planning project.
